Scotland Manager Visits Leith Girls Squad

The Manager of the Scotland Women’s Football team, Melissa Andreatta, came to visit the Leith Primary School girls football team last Wednesday in the school’s library. The girls had prepared questions for Melissa about her role as a manager and the role of a professional football player. Melissa was delighted to share her experiences of working within women’s football with the girls and was impressed with their passion for the game.
Farewell Mrs Stiven

Our beloved Pupil Support Assistant, Mrs Edith Stiven, will be retiring tomorrow after nearly twenty-seven years in the job. As one of our most experienced and dedicated PSAs, Mrs Stiven has helped thousands of children at all stages across the school from nursery to P7. She has also skilfully supported pupils with a wide range of abilities, some of whom have managed to overcome times of real crisis in their lives thanks to her calm, understanding and endlessly patient care and support. Mrs Stiven has volunteered her own time for free to support children on numerous residential trips, such as the recent one to Lagganlia. She has led nurture groups in The Loft and most recently has been supporting individual children in The Oak Room. Over the years, Mrs Stiven has been the embodiment of our school values: kind, responsible and persevering through both challenging and good times. She will be greatly missed by colleagues and children and leaves enormous shoes to fill. We wish her all the best on her very well deserved retirement and hope that she knows that she has affected the lives of many, many Leith Primary children for the better.
Pupil Voice in Action

Well done to our Primary 5 pupils who delivered letters to local MSP Ben Macphearson. The letters provided an opportunity for the children to demonstrate their powers of written persuasion. Primary 5 asked Mr Macphearson to use his powers as an MSP to grant all children a day off school after the Scotland-Haiti football game at the World Cup. A few of the P5 children delivered the letters in person to Mr Macphearson’s office in Leith – accompanied by Ms Aitken. We will report back if they get a response to their request.
Leith Connections Launch

Well done to the P6 and P7 pupils who took part in the Leith Connections launch at Sandport way last week. The children travelled along the cycle route (below) before posing for photographs with the Cabinet Secretary.

Health Week 2026
The Links has been a hive of sporting activity this week as part of our annual celebration of good health. Children have had the opportunity to take part in football, cricket, volleyball, tennis, running and dancing sessions. They have also had the chance to enjoy a healthy fruit platter courtesy of our friends at Tesco Leith Walk. Pupils have been learning about the importance of good sleep hygiene and health screen habits as part of their work in class about self care and in support of our work towards our Digital Health & Wellbeing work this session. Well done to Ada in P5 for winning the Health Week poster design this year! Thank you to Mrs Watson and Ms McDonald for organising it all.

P7 Transition Clubs/Various Clubs at Leith Academy
Our Primary 7 Transition Clubs at Leith Academy will run throughout Term 3, giving P7 pupils a fantastic opportunity to experience high school life before joining us after the summer. Pupils are invited to come along and take part in a range of high school clubs, helping them discover new interests and build confidence in a familiar setting. They’ll meet the coaches who run the activities and get to know pupils from other primary schools who may be in their classes next year. It’s a friendly, supportive way to ease the transition and get excited about the move to high school and the extra-curricular opportunities offered here at Leith Academy.
