Nurture

Leith Primary is a nurturing school. The work we do with our children is underpinned by the six principles of nurture-based practice (see above). Our staff follow an agreed set of practices and each classroom has a consistent approach to ensuring pupils’ sense of psychological safety.

Pupils identified for additional support with their social or emotional development, for reasons not attributed to an underlying neurodevelopment condition, can attend The Loft. The Loft offers a safe, friendly and dedicated space for pupils, to work together, understand and manage their emotions and talk about any challenges they might have in an accepting non-judgemental way. Our wonderful and experienced Pupil Support Officer, Elspeth Richards, offers small group and 1:1 support for pupils who might require additional help and support with friendships skills, emotional literacy and self regulation, bereavement and loss, anxiety management, confidence and self esteem building or just a chat about a worry.
