Fun at Lagganlia!
Our mixed group of P5-P7 pupils have been having a ball up north at the outdoor residential centre at Lagganlia. Whilst it has been too stormy to go skiing on the snowy slopes, there has been no shortage of fun activities to take part in. From night walks, gorge walking and team games to a behind the scenes tour of the Highland Wildlife Park, the group have packed lots in to their two-night stay. The bus should be back at school this afternoon around 4.30pm.
Sad News
Some of you may remember Margaret, our very longstanding crossing patrol guide who retired in 2021, after 40 years of being the school’s lollypop lady. Sadly, Margaret passed away last week with her family around her. Some of our staff who attended Leith Primary School as pupils themselves can remember Margaret being their lollypop lady too. Margaret ensured the safe crossing of thousands of pupils and their families over the 40 years and was always a friendly face to everyone she met. We send her family and friends our heartfelt condolences.
Parents Consultations
Thank you to everyone who responded to our invitation to attend a short meeting to discuss your child’s academic progress next week at Parent-Teacher Consultations. You should now have received a confirmation text of the date and time of your appointment.
If you would like to meet with our Support for Learning teacher, Mrs Ciechanowicz, she will be available for drop-in appointments from 4pm-6pm on Wednesday and 1pm-3pm on Friday in room 14.
Our Family Support Worker, Lisa Dowie, will be about from 4pm-6pm on Wednesday to say hello and to chat to any parents or carers who would like some quick advice on parenting and child behaviour, home learning, online safety for children, housing, benefits, mental health, finances, getting back to work, or would like to make an appointment to meet with her in future weeks for a proper consultation.
Allergies & Asthma
There has been an increase in children coming to school with inhalers for asthma and other over-the-counter medications. It is vitally important that you inform the school if your child has been prescribed any medication, including an inhaler, for asthma or similar respiratory illness as we must follow strict medication procedures to keep your child safe.
Please can you request a medical form from our administrator if you would like your child to take any medication whilst at school. We have a legal responsibility to ensure that any forms of medication are administered correctly whilst your child is under our care.
We aim to be a nut-free school and strongly discourage children from bringing in any type of nut or nut-based product into school as we do have some children with serious nut allergies. However, as a multi-use building, we are unable to ever fully guarantee we are nut-free. Your support with this aim is appreciated.
Having a food allergy can be a serious medical condition and should be diagnosed professionally by your GP or hospital specialist before being entered in your child’s data or enrolment form. Dislikes or suspected intolerances should not be reported as allergies unless you have first spoken to your doctor for advice or diagnosis.

We expect these sessions to fill quickly. A waiting list will be created for anyone who is unable to secure a space.
