Cyber Resilience and Internet Safety: Advice for Parents & Carers

This year, the school is focussing on raising children’s awareness of the need to be safe on the internet and be cyber resilient. Whilst we are keen to harness the benefits of using digital technology in class, we believe we also have a responsibility to ensure children are aware of the dangers and pitfalls of being online and engaging with social media. Every year, the school manages increasing numbers of worrying incidents with pupils that originate online. Some of these issues involve the police and social work. What seems clear is that most parents are not fully aware of how easy it is for their child to get into difficulties online, whether that is cyber bullying, accessing or sharing inappropriate materials or being in contact with strangers. We want to ensure that our parents and carers are informed and can protect their children from these issues. The City of Edinburgh Council’s Digital Learning Team have created a website to do just this. You cab access it here: https://edinburghlearns.digital/parents-carers/cyber-resilience-and-internet-safety/
