Key Worker Childcare Form for Parents

In preparation for key worker child care starting on 6th January, Leith Primary School parents/carers have been sent an email with a unique link to a Form to complete if they believe they meet the Scottish Government definition of Key Worker status.

All school staff and school-based FM staff are considered by City of Edinburgh Council to be Category 1 and 2 Key Workers and therefore any staff with children in a City of Edinburgh Council establishment may apply for childcare at their own child’s school, if they meet the criteria on the flowchart.

Please let us know if you have not received this email.

Many thanks

Christmas Message from Ms Craig

Dear Parents/Carers and Friends of Leith Primary School and Nursery

Thank you for all your kind messages and seasonal good wishes to our hard working staff at the end of this extraordinarily challenging year. I’d like to take this opportunity to recognise the enormous efforts of our wider school community team: our teachers, PSAs, office team, nursery staff, leadership team, lunch staff, cleaners, janitorial, crossing patrol, family support staff, LPPC, community police, allied health team, additional for learning service team, out-of-hours childcare providers, our students, our multiple community partners, loyal supporters of the school and most importantly our parents, carers and grandparents. This year, we simply could not have managed without you. Despite the many unique challenges this year brought, all of us continue to work together towards one common purpose; to support the wellbeing, learning and development of our wonderful young people who each, individually deserve the very best we can give them. On behalf of our ‘wee Leithers’, my heartfelt thanks to every one of you. It appears that 2021 may continue to bring further uncertainty and challenge. But we have our well developed contingency and renewal plans, the hope of the new COVID vaccines and the support of each other in our strong Leith Primary School community. We are Leithers and we will persevere!

For now, it is time for us to rest, be with family if we can, indulge a little in whatever lifts our spirits and think about what we are grateful for.

On a more practical note, please ensure that we have your most up-to-date mobile phone number and email address. If you have changed either contact recently, please let us know ASAP so we can update our records. Important information will be sent to both main carers from the school and the centrally by the council so it is critical we have these details on file.

Class teachers will communicate with parents directly via Online Learning Journals. There are still a few parents/carers who have not logged on to their child’s profile. It is really important you do this soon. Let us know if you would like your password reset.

Information about what will happen in the new year will be sent to you directly by email from the City of Edinburgh Council and by the school. We will also continue to update the school website with all the need-to-know information.

Please have a warm and restful winter break whatever your plans are and we look forward to seeing you all in 2021.

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Fiona Craig

Changes to School Lunches Today and Tomorrow

Dear Parent/Carer,

Due to the precautionary self-isolation of the catering team within Leith Primary a reduced offer will be served to pupils up to the Christmas break.  We would like to re-assure parents and guardians that there is no risk to pupils as a result of this self-isolation.  We would like to reiterate that this is only a precautionary measure as advised by Health Protection Scotland and high standards of legislative compliance are being followed at all times.

From Monday 21st December a packed lunch will be substituted to all those who have ordered lunches, please note we will continue to provide any special diets that have been requested through the usual process.  The hot option will be automatically substituted with a cheese sandwich packed lunch.

We would like to apologise for any inconvenience this may cause

The P7 Christmas Shop is OPEN!!!

Roll up, Roll up!

We may not be able to host our annual School Christmas Fair this year however our industrious and enterprising P7 pupils have created some terrifically perfect presents for our school community to buy this Christmas. These items could be great stocking fillers or ideal gifts for the pocket money conscious spender. This is part of the P7 Virgin Money enterprise project, Make £5 Grow.

Please have a look at the Christmas Shop Catalogues below. Order forms will be sent home next week.

You can find this information on your parent/carer email inboxes (check you junk mail too!)

The Pupils of Primary 7

Message from Leith Primary School and NHS Lothian

Dear Parent/Carer

As you may already know, we are aware of a small number of Leith Primary pupils from the same household who have tested positive for COVID-19. We have been working closely with NHS Lothian Health Protection Team and following all national guidance.

A number of people have now been contacted because they have been in close and sustained contact with the case and the tracking process is now complete.

These contacts will need to self isolate and appropriate guidance and advice has been given.

If you have not been contacted directly to tell you your child is a close contact, then your child should attend school as normal.

Enhanced cleaning and infection control measures are in place in line with national guidance. The school is safe and remains open.

If you have any concerns in the meantime, or if you need to book a COVID-19 test because your child has developed symptoms (high temperature, a new continuous cough and/or a loss or change in sense of smell or taste) please visit the NHS Inform website  or for non-clinical advice call 0800 028 2816.

Please note that a test should only ever be booked if you or your child has these specifics symptoms.

Remember to stay at home if anyone in the household has symptoms of COVID-19.
