What makes our School Different?

Leith Primary is an amazing and historic building right on the edge of Leith Links. Although the building hosts a number of different users the school has very spacious and flexible accommodation. There are music rooms, a games room, a library and an art and practical room. The school truly reflects its catchment area. We are proud of the diversity of the children and families we serve. We are proud of the quality of education we provide for all children. We have an excellent record in providing care, support and challenge for all pupils. We promote positive behaviour, respect for all and encourage a positive attitude to learning. If you would like to see more please arrange a visit through the office.

Solar Panel

In June 2006 a group of then P7 children entered a competition to win a wind turbine. Leith Primary were chosen as the winners. Over the following year there were some difficulties with installing the windmill. As a result an alternative system was finally installed by Scottish and Southern Power during the summer.

Leith Primary now has a 2 Kilowatt Photo Voltaic system, linked into the National Grid. There are 12 huge panels on the roof that convert the sun’s energy into electricity that can be either used by the school or fed into the Grid if the school has no need of the power.

Although relatively modest in the amount of energy this will generate it is a huge step forward for Leith Primary to be able to use renewable energy.

When it is working at full capacity, on a very sunny day, the system will be able to power almost 20 small school light bulbs and up to 32 tube lights.

There will be a display installed outside the dinner hall to indicate how much electricity has been generated over time.
